The length of the work was not appreciated at the time of its premiere (Hoffmanstahl and Richard Strauss originally had a difference of opinion), and it was eventually substantially rewritten to become the current \"Ariadne of Naxos\". This is why the catalog of Strauss's works also shows a mixture of \"The Townsman Aristocrat\" and \"Ariadne of Naxos\" in Op.60. There have been recordings of the first draft version on CD by Kent Nagano\/Lyon Orchestra, and some connoisseurs have enjoyed the differences from the current version, but this time it was performed in a more \"bumpy\" way, this time on stage directed by Bechtloff at the Salzburg Festival.It is a wonder that this piece has not been talked about.
