885470029719
Rudolf Herzer - Herzog Complete MPS Stereo Recordings Vol.2 (Italian, French Music & Miniatures etc.) (Tower Records Exclusive) - Import 5 CD

Credits:

Rudolf Herzer

Description:

Vol. 2 is the world premiere CD release of all stereo recordings by Ludwig Helscher from 1967-77 on the MPS label, in two volumes. The complete Beethoven: Cello Sonatas, recorded in 1972, is included for reference. Newly reissued from the original analog master tapes of MPS in the home country (except Beethoven)! The world's first CD release of MPS recordings from 1972 to 1977 by the famous German cellist Ludwig Herscher (1907-96)! In the Boccherini Concerto, the Cello Pieces, and the Italian and French music with organ, his graceful singing and rich emotion stand out, while the Saint-Saens and Debussy sonatas and the 20th century works dedicated to him showcase his keen sense and exuberant passion. The original master is unknown, so the sound recording is taken from the LP. The Beethoven Cello Sonatas with Demus, recorded from the original LPs due to the uncertainty of the original master, are also in excellent sound quality, and you can enjoy a masterful performance that encapsulates noble elegance in a neat form. The reissue is also released with an ideal reissue method in terms of sound quality. The sound quality is excellent to begin with, and the excellent recording is now even more beautifully restored on CD.Ludwig Herscher (1907-1996) was born into a family of music lovers who played in the family string quartet and began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied cello in Cologne, Munich, Leipzig, and Berlin with such virtuosos as Hugo Becker, Julius Klengel, and Wilhelm Lamping. In 1936, he made his debut as soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Wilhelm Furtwängler. In 1937, he was appointed professor at the Higher School of Music in Berlin. After the war, while serving as professor at the Stuttgart State University of Music and Dramatic Arts from 1954 to 1972, he gave concerts worldwide, and since his first visit to Japan in 1953, he came to Japan several times to perform and teach at the Tokyo University of the Arts. This two-CD set is the world premiere CD release of Herscher's previously unknown masterpieces recorded in analog stereo for MPS in Germany in 1967 and 1972-77 (only the second CD, Chopin: Brilliant Polonaise and Debussy: Sonatas, was released by Bayer on CD in 1995).These recordings have never been released in Japan through LPs or CDs, and were known only from the few German LP records that came into Japan at the time.
