Furthermore, Lucia Pop’s singing is absolutely magnificent, and listeners can enjoy the choral masterpiece *The Creation*.”\n\nA live recording of Haydn’s monumental oratorio *The Creation*—which the late maestro Tennstedt “conducted only once in his lifetime (probably)”—is now available on CD!\nThe previous release, the Wagner album, set sales records, so please be sure to check out this new release as well.\n\nIn 1984, he conducted “Fidelio” at the Met at the start of the year and also conducted Mahler with the Minnesota Orchestra. Even after returning to London, he enthusiastically took on works such as Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, “Carmina Burana,” and Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique.” It was also the year he toured Japan with the LPO in April and recorded “Das Lied von der Erde” for EMI in August.\nThis album features a performance recorded on February 19 at the Royal Festival Hall [though official information from the label has not been confirmed, this is believed to be the date], with the “BBC recording” released on CD—so we can expect excellent sound quality. Although Tennstedt did not often perform Haydn, this CD vividly conveys the excitement of a live performance, a rich range of nuanced expression, and the depth of the music; it also allows one to truly appreciate the unique artistry of a master conductor when tackling large-scale works. It is also worth noting the participation of Lucia Pop, one of the leading coloratura sopranos of the 20th century. Although Pop had numerous opportunities to perform with Tenschitt, she delivers an outstanding performance of this piece—one for which she also left a recording on a DECCA release (conducted by Dratti). Other featured artists include Laxon (who also appeared on the DECCA recording) and R.
