Johnny Hodges was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1907. Known for his pure tone and distinctive style, he left an immeasurable inspiration for future generations. A core member of the Ellington band, except for a period in the 50's when he led his own band, he was a member of Ray Nance (tp, violin, vocal), Lawrence Brown (tb), Harry Carney (bars), Al Williams (p), Aaron Bell (b), Sam Wood Yard (dr), and gave a concert tour of Europe in the spring of 1961.
