The group's interplay, which, as Toldo himself says, \"is all about melody,\" draws strength from restraint, patiently but simply building the music to its climax. The pianist, meanwhile, is an accomplished master of the trio format, leading with a delicate touch and subtle gospel brilliance.\n\n\n\nSeeing is strongly marked not only by a seductive down-home feeling, but also by what Toldo calls \"an efficiency of form. He says, \"You won't find many large-scale solos on this album. Instead, I tried to 'maximize' the basic details by pouring musicality into the interplay and formation of small improvised parts. In doing so, the album is a cool contrast to the more recent live concerts, which often feature more grandiose forms, lengthy suites, several themes combined into one, or lengthy free improvisations. But what the album has in common is that instead of following a plan or a script, it seeks to do what feels more vibratory and essential in the moment.
