SIEGFRIED has been pursuing orthodox HR since its formation in 1983, and this reissue of their first album "REMAINS" (2002), a masterpiece of Japanese hard rock, includes the single "THE END OF ETERNITY" (2004)! The two albums were produced by the longest-serving lineup in the band's history, featuring Mate Araki (Vo), Masaki Taguchi (G), Shuzo Takagi (B), Takao Seki (Ds), and Eiki Yasuda (Key), although there have been many member changes. The heavy and supple riff work with a hint of melancholy, the keyboards that color the songs with their majestic words, and the tight and sharp rhythms come together to create a hard rock sound with a large scale. Araki's vocals, which are elongated, sometimes lustrous, sometimes powerful, and captivating with a wide variety of expressive power, are superb, and his ability to compete on equal footing with the heavy backing vocals is on display.The opening track "EMBODIMENT" with its speedy riffs, "HILL OF GRIEF" with its impressive phrases, "BORN TODIE," a powerful up-tempo song, "EVENT HORIZON" with its various guitar work, etc., are all long, but the band's ability to make you feel as if you are listening to the whole album at once with its perfection and seamless composition is superb.
