The three works on this album were written over a 10-year period from 1905 to 1915, when Fuchs was at the peak of his powers of concentration. The three works are all of different character: No. 4 begins with a relaxed first movement; No. 5, with its deeply lyrical second movement, is especially memorable; and No. 6, with its melancholy atmosphere throughout the entire piece. All of the pieces are written with brilliant brush strokes supported by the superb compositional techniques that impressed even Brahms, and each piece has a precise structure and a richly varied melody, including the use of chromatic harmony at times. The violinist who plays on the program is Hye-jin Chung, who studied with Takako Nishizaki at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (HKAPA) and later with Sergey Kravchenko in Moscow, where she won prizes in numerous competitions. She is known for her rich expressiveness and beautiful tone.
