It was very rare for Schoenberg to be performed in Italy at that time, when neoclassical music was very popular, and Toni never forgot the experience, recalling it from time to time throughout his life. Totoni was so fascinated by the world of twelve-tone music that he composed the Flute Sonata, Op.35, after meeting the flutist Gazzelloni at a summer school in Darmstadt in 1951. The following year, Gazzeroni premiered the work, but unfortunately, the audience did not respond well to it. Toni, however, did not dwell on this, but took Fabriziani, who plays on this album, as a friend and continued to compose flute music with his advice, and succeeded in creating a mystical work without bending his own argument.
