This is the first SACD release of any of these works. Krecki, who excelled in German Romanticism, also actively took up Mahler's works, and had previously recorded Nos. 1 and 9 in mono with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. The \"No. 1\" is a remarkable recording with the Vienna Philharmonic, and even if Krecki's intention was to cut 30 seconds off the coda in the fourth movement, the dense performance more than makes up for it. The \"Songs of the Earth\" with F. Dieskau, in which Krecki has a firm grasp of the structure of the music, is a particularly masterful recording, and has enhanced Krecki's reputation.The master was digitized at 192kHz\/24bit from the original analog master tapes in the original country for this release, and mastered separately for the SACD and CD layers. New commentary and bilingual lyrics are included.
