The Latvian-born composer Petris Vasks will celebrate his 75th birthday on April 16, 2021. Croatian-born conductor Lepcic is known for being a good interpreter of Vasks and actively introducing his works, and this album includes three works for string orchestra and a cello concerto. The three works for string orchestra were composed over a period of almost 30 years, in 1983, 2002, and 2015, respectively, and show the tragic and passionate changes in Vasks's style, reflecting the death of his sister in 1983 and the uneasy political situation in Latvia, which occurred during that period.
