She studied the rudiments of composition with Mel Boni (1858-1937), another female composer, and in 1894 entered the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where she studied counterpoint with Albert Roussel and organ with Louis Vierne (principal organist at Notre Dame Cathedral from 1900). 1908 In 1908, at the Schola Cantorum, Charlotte met and married Marcel Labey, a composer and conductor 12 years her senior. Marcel later became a professor at the Schola Cantorum, and they had a child and lived happily ever after. He was a frequent visitor to the Salon and was recognized by patrons. After the war, the family moved to Normandy, where they acquired a chateau with more than seven pianos and invited various musicians, including Enescu and Honegger, as well as non-music artists such as Maurice Denis. Her husband Marcel also established a music school in the small village.Charlotte composed chamber music for her children and also worked on an opera, \"The Crowned Slave,\" based on Selma Lagerlöf's short story \"Astrid,\" which she wrote and conducted four times, including two performances by her husband Marcel. She died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage in 1955, but left behind piano works, chamber music, and a large-scale work for orchestra, which is also included on this disc.
