Founded in 2005 by Munich-born shawm player Katharina Boiml, Capella de la Torre is a German Renaissance instrumental wind ensemble specializing in medieval and Renaissance music, named after the 16th century Spanish composer Francisco de la Torre and after a medieval minstrel who played music from a tower. The name is a play on the 16th century Spanish composer Francisco de la Torre and the Spanish \"de la Torre\" (from the top of the tower), a reference to the medieval bard who played music from the top of a tower. The orchestra is almost identical to the musicians who actually played in Nuremberg at that time, and has earned a reputation as a professional group specializing in historical performances, winning Opus Classics and Echo Classics awards. Francesco Cavalli (1602-1676) is known for his charming and innovative style among the composers of the Venetian School of Music. He sang under Monteverdi's direction in the choir of St. Mark's Basilica, became the organist of the cathedral, and as a composer became a pupil of Monteverdi, developing his talents not only in opera but also in religious music. He composed a personal \"Requiem\" (Mass for the Dead) at the end of his life. For this recording, Katharina Boiml has created a new edition of the work, adding and enhancing the instrumental parts (especially the wind parts) (this is the world premiere recording of this edition).Besides Cavalli's Requiem, the album contains interesting vocal and instrumental works from the 16th and 17th centuries. Most of them are related to Venice and its surroundings. These works are true discoveries, and by interspersing works by little-known composers such as Francesco Manelli (1595-1667), Maurizio Cazzati (1532-1594), and Giovanni Bassano (1551\/52-1617) in the middle, the \"Death is The album as a whole shows color and diversity in a new light, illuminating the hope of those for whom \"death is not the end\".
