Ishmuratov conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in a collection of concertos of his own compositions! Eilat Ishmuratov (1973-) is a young Russian-Canadian composer from the Republic of Tatarstan. He is also active as a clarinetist, conductor, and educator in Montreal's Kleztory klezmer band. His third collection for Chandos features two of his best-known concertos, both of which were written by the composer's patrons. Both are recorded by the soloist who dedicated and premiered them. The Viola Concerto No. 1 was conceived in 2004, while Ishmuratov was a student in the conducting department at the Université de Montréal, at the request of viola player Elvira Misbakhova (a doctoral student there), who wanted a new concerto that combined lyrical impulse and virtuoso challenge, and ultimately The result is a large-scale work in three movements.In this work, the viola's inherent melancholy character is both utilized and celebrated. The piano concerto was written in 2012-13, and then waited a decade for a soloist who could play and finish the solo part correctly. The work finally saw the light of day when it met Jean-Philippe Sylvestre, a pianist from Montreal who loved the virtuoso tradition and was looking for a new concerto.
