The main work is Otmar Scheck's large work, \"Buried Alive,\" a collection of songs on poems by Keller, which runs 45 minutes in performance time. It is written in a free atonal style. Scheck was a friend of the poet Hermann Hesse, but his reputation did not develop after the war because of his alleged Nazi connections during the war. This work is a magnificent collection of songs, almost operatic, that is well worth listening to. The ensemble concerto by Mitropoulos, who gained fame as a conductor during his lifetime, is as big as Scheck's, clocking in at 25 minutes. Mitropoulos, who understood Mahler, the New Viennese School, and the music of his time, also left behind many progressive works. This is another interesting work that mixes free atonal music with Bartók, Russian, and Eastern European music. Both are recordings of valuable works rarely heard elsewhere.
