Mariss Jansons

Description:

Conducted by the renowned conductor Mariss Jansons, this is a sophisticated approach to the music of Shostakovich and Mahler that breaks away from the "Soviet/Russian locality" and is in line with the music of Mahler. Mariss Jansons set out to record the foundations of these symphonies in the 20th century repertoire. The deep understanding and emotional spirit he displayed for Shostakovich's music was particularly strong. Shostakovich composed his first symphony in 1925 as his graduation work from the Leningrad Conservatory, and his 15th symphony in 1971, four years before his death. Perhaps more than any other composer's symphonic canon in history, these works reflect the dramatic historical events of his time, in this case the 20th century, especially the Russian Revolution, World War II, and Stalinist repression. This is an international box of complete works, completed with eight orchestras from around the world: the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.Jansons' own interpretation of Shostakovich's music is characterized by a departure from the so-called "Soviet/Russian local" approach, and he also considers the music of Shostakovich and Mahler from the common perspective of "the alienation he felt as a member of society and his personal position in it. The most appealing elements of the album are its sophisticated approach, which is also consistent with Mahler's music, its interesting construction of detail-oriented textures, and its ingenuity in bringing counterpoint elements and complex rhythms into relief, as well as the amount of information it contains. In addition to the symphony, this release includes the cello concerto and piano concerto. *Lyrics and bilingual translation are not included. Warner Music Japan
