Description:

This album features live performances by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet with his brother Nat, Joe Zawinul, Victor Gaskin, and Roy McCurdy at "The Penthouse" jazz club in Seattle in June 1966 and October 1967. All performances are previously unreleased. In 1966, the quintet recorded live in Amsterdam on June 3, 1966, before returning to the U.S. In August of the same year, the quintet performed at the Penthouse in Seattle with two other members. In August of that year, the same members made a second visit to Japan, which can be heard on the album "Cannonball In Japan" released on Capitol. Also, the 1967 performance was about two and a half months after the June-July recording of the Capitol disc "74 Miles Away," which means it was between the June 1968 recording of the Capitol disc "Accent On Africa. The songs played are "Big "P"", a Jimmy Heath original that he often featured around 1960, "The Girl Next Door", the title track from "74 Miles Away" and the standard from that album, "Cannonball In Japan" and the classic album " The Sticks" and "Hippodelphia" from "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", "Morning Of The Carnival" and "Somewhere" from "Great Love Themes", and the blues "Back Home Blues" by Charlie Parker. blues "Back Home Blues" by Charlie Parker. Of these, the Cannonball's performance of "Back Home Blues" has never been heard before, and both the '66 and '67 performances are hot and groovy, reminiscent of their summer '66 tour of Japan. Roy McCurdy's sharp drumming especially shines through.
