SACD hybrid disc. This is a collection of the earliest piano works by Hans Erich Apostel (1901-1972), a German composer who was considered the voice of the New Viennese Music School. From 1916 to 1919, Apostel studied piano, music theory, and conducting with Alfred Lorenz in his hometown of Karlsruhe. In 1920, he became music director of the Baden Theater in Karlsruhe. Apostel was very interested in expressionist painting and was friends with Oskar Kokoschka, Alfred Kubin, and Emil Nolde. The works recorded here are interesting piano works inspired by the paintings of his friends Kokoschka and Kubin, including a world premiere recording. His works were banned during the Nazi regime because his music was considered decadent. This is a unique world.
