She began studying voice and guitar at an early age and went on to study piano and voice at the Superior Conservatory of the Liceu.She made her professional debut in 1944 with a recital in Barcelona, and made her operatic debut the following year at the Gran Teatre del Liceu as the Countess in Mozart's \"Le Nozze di Figaro\"; she won first prize at the 1947 Geneva International Music Competition and made her debut at the Paris Opera in 1949, the Salzburg Festival and Royal Opera House in 1950, the Milan Scala, the Metropolitan Opera in 1951, and the Vienna State Opera in 1957. From 1963, she gradually focused on recitals, and sang a Catalan folk song, \"The Song of the Birds,\" at the closing ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. She died of respiratory failure in a Barcelona hospital on January 15, 2005.
