Originally known as a difficult piece for flute, it is even more difficult for clarinet, allowing the listener to appreciate Barragan's virtuosity. Pablo Barragan is a clarinetist born in Spain in 1987. He studied in his hometown and in Basel, where he was recognized by Barenboim and is a player in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Perhaps because of this, he also focuses on works with a strong Jewish flavor (jazz and klezmer) by Bernstein, Weinberg, and others. The piano is played by Sophie Pacini, who was born in 1991 and has been a familiar face at the Argerich Festival in Lugano since 2010. These four works are not mere accompaniments, as the composers were all piano virtuosos.
