Although only the lovely Minuet is known today, Boccherini's works for string quintet (in which the cello plays a major role) have recently become more widely performed, and his beautiful \"Stabat Mater\" with string quintet accompaniment has also become well known. In this album, we can hear the \"Stabat Mater\" and the string quintet and string quartet from which the melody was adapted. Although Boccherini's motive for composing the Stabat Mater is not known, it was undoubtedly an important work for him, as he later arranged it for orchestral accompaniment. If you want to enjoy the flavor of the work, the modesty of the first version (for string quintet with two cellos) is more appropriate, and the soprano singing is also more appealing. The expressive cello melody, which was probably played by Boccherini himself at the premiere, is particularly appealing.
