The work is now sometimes performed under the title \"Vasco da Gama\" as originally conceived by Maierbeer, but this performance also includes the more commonly used title \"The African Woman\". However, the score used is a comparative revision made in 2013, reflecting Maia Behr's original intentions based on the original score and the vast amount of unfinished and surviving material. This performance focuses on Michael Spires, a popular \"baritenor\" with a wide range from baritone to tenor. He delivers the famous Act IV aria \"O Heaven,\" in a beautiful voice.
