After winning the 8th prize at the 5th International Chopin Competition in 1955, he went to Brussels to study, and the following year he won the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, where he was awarded the first prize by Lazare Berman and Tamás Vášáry. The following year, he won the third prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, beating out Lazare Berman and Tamás Váshári, and began his career as a pianist. As a composer, he left behind many works, and it seems that he preferred to be recognized as a composer rather than a pianist. This concerto for violin, \"Classical,\" has a chamber music character despite the use of a large orchestra. The violin and orchestra, played by Ilya Gringolts, are exquisitely balanced, and the interplay between the instruments is like that of a baroque ensemble concerto. Giya Kancheli is a Georgian-born composer. This \"Libera Me\" is a vocal piece subtitled in the style of a requiem, but instead of using Latin as in a regular requiem, it uses the words of two great Georgian poets, Vadja Puschavela and Galaktion Tabidze, as a free text. The performance is by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Andrej Borejko. Borejko was born in St. Petersburg but is of Polish descent on his father's side and has been the Music Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra since the 2019\/20 season.
