The play of the same name by Danish playwright Adam Ehrenschreier (1779-1850) was a popular work with music by Kuhlau and Goeze, and was performed as incidental music for plays and other productions. The first performance of Hoenemann's opera, which was composed in 1888 from a libretto by Benjamin Fezzasen, was a romantic music with an oriental atmosphere, but unfortunately, the first performance was a disaster due to lack of preparation. Unfortunately, the premiere was a flop due to lack of preparation, but the overture was so popular that Nielsen, who later wrote music for a play of the same name, conducted it, and it has survived in the Danish concert repertoire to this day.
