This album features a collection of his late works, performed by noted conductor Robert Trevino and the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, with violinist Simone Ramsma as soloist. In his later years, Rautavaara was repeatedly asked by world-class violinists to write works for them, and he wrote several large-scale works. The album's opener, \"Fantasia,\" is a soft-sounding neo-romantic work, full of pastoral moods and serenity. The \"Two Serenades\" is from a violin concerto that was commissioned in 2014 but never completed. The second movement was sketched by Rautavaara and completed by his pupil Kalevi Aho. You can enjoy Aho's exquisite orchestration, which respects his teacher's style.Lost Landscapes was written for Midori Goto. Originally composed as a violin sonata, it was orchestrated by Rautavaara himself in 2013, and the first part was premiered at the Tanglewood Contemporary Music Festival in July 2015, followed by the entire piece's premiere in Malmö with Simone Ramsma playing solo. In the Beginning for orchestra, a six-minute work co-commissioned by the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, opens the 2019 Inkinen \u0026amp; Japan Philharmonic European tour program.
