The main character of this comedy, which premiered in Zurich in 1936, is the real-life Josephine Boarne, a young and beautiful widow. The beautiful young widow Josephine receives a prophecy from a fortune teller that she will become Empress, meets Napoleon, and goes through many twists and turns before becoming Empress, which Kalman depicts with beautiful music. Originally, this work was to be performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, where Kármán lived in exile, but the singer scheduled to sing the lead role died in an accident, and when a substitute could not be found, hopes for the role were doomed and the work was forgotten. This performance is a moving performance that includes the melancholy and depth of Kalman's music.
