Description:

Brittany Howard, lead singer/guitarist of Alabama Shakes, releases her first solo album "Jamie" featuring Robert Glasper and Nate Smith. Brittany Howard, lead singer/guitarist of the four-piece band Alabama Shakes from Athens, Alabama, USA, released her debut album "Boys & Girls" in 2012 to rave reviews from many celebrities including Adele. It was nominated for a Grammy Award at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards for Best New Artist. Their second album, "Sound & Color" (15), debuted at #1 in the U.S., #1 in Canada, and #6 in the U.K., and won a total of four Grammy Awards, including the 58th Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. The album title of this first solo album, "Jamie," is the name of Brittany's older sister. Jamie, who taught Brittany how to play the piano and write poetry, passed away in her teens due to illness. The title is in memory of her. "The title is in memory of my sister, who shaped me as a person," Brittany said. Brittany said. The cover photo of the first single from the album, "History Repeats," features a photo of Brittany and her sister as children. Brittany says, "But the album isn't about my sister, it's about me. I'm pretty outspoken about who I am, who I am, and what I believe in. So I had to make this album on my own." The new album contains 11 songs, some of which have been written in the past and some of which are newly released. Brittany admits, "It was tough to put myself out there like this. Brittany admits that, at 30, she wondered whether she would continue to sing the same songs until she turned 50 and retire, or whether she would take on something she found scary. Brittany's work with the Alabama Shakes has made her one of the most celebrated and beloved icons in the music world, and she has been through it all, from the White House during the Obama administration to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury to Lollapalooza, where she was invited to sing with Paul McCartney. She has been there, done that, and more. I don't have any time off. I have to be creating something. If I don't, I feel weird and I don't feel like a rich person. The band members include Zach Cockrell, bassist and friend of the Alabama Shakes, Robert Glasper, a leader in the contemporary jazz scene, and Nate Smith, a superb drummer.
