The other composer, Nebra, was a Spaniard born in the early 18th century and a man of great talent who served as royal organist and vice-rector of the Royal Choir School during the period when Scarlatti was active at the Spanish court.\nScarlatti’s *Stabat Mater* is an ambitious work written for a 10-part choir and basso continuo, with a performance time of nearly 30 minutes. With a polyphonic sound that follows the ancient conventions of church music—in stark contrast to Pergolesi’s famous works and those of his father Alessandro, who pioneered that style—one can sense the solidity of a tradition unique to Italy. The meticulous interpretations by the soloists—one for each vocal part—are truly vivid and crystal clear. On the other hand, the “Salve Regina” is one of his very last works; amidst the minor-key sounds that evoke the earnestness of the faithful’s supplications, the beauty of the solo singing—reminiscent of the latest Neapolitan opera—stands out. Nebra’s two works, composed in the 1750s like the latter, feature a magnificent blend of the galant style and traditional contrapuntal techniques. The performance features renowned singers such as Romain Bocler and Hugo Oliveira, who, through close collaboration between instruments and voices, carefully bring out the subtle nuances of each work. In addition to commentary (in Japanese, English, French, and German) by musicologist Dinko Fabris—who has a rich track record in research on Italian music prior to the 18th century—and conductor Lecasence, the booklet, featuring numerous illustrations with detailed source citations, is beautifully designed and well worth reading.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Lauda","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53696774701345,"sku":"4589538835330","price":98.0,"currency_code":"ILS","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4589538835330.jpg?v=1791538428","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-il\/products\/4589538835330","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
