The elaborate selection of music is remarkable. A collection of pastoral songs filled with healing Sofiya Gyuribadamova, born in Moscow in 1981, studied under American pianist James Tocco for many years and has attracted attention for her CDs with a geeky repertoire that is not typical for a young woman. Her latest album is a collection of pieces titled "Pastoral. The "pastoral" here is deep and refers not only to nature and peace, but also to personal and inner feelings, such as childhood memories and love for others. The selection is elaborate, with the exception of Chopin's "Boat Song" and Grieg's own "I Love You," which are quite rare works and editions. Glazunov's "Pastoral" was written in the composer's later years and contains immense emotion and drama beneath its gentle and beautiful melody. Elgar's first "Pastoral" is full of tender emotions reminiscent of "Love's Greeting," and surprisingly, the "Serenade for Strings" is performed in its entirety in Malcolm Kenzie's arrangement for solo piano. Also exquisite are the six selections from Reynaldo Ahn's magnum opus, "Nightingale Madness.The inclusion of the beautiful "Prince Eglantine's Dream" is a delight, and proves that Magda Taliaferro, the pianist of yesteryear who made this her number eighteen, was the teacher of her mentor Tocco, and Gyuribadamova is proud to be his granddaughter's student. Earl Wilde's "Exercise on a Gershwin Song" is the piece he played at the concert that led her to study with Tocco. It is a very difficult piece, but you can enjoy her superb fingerings.
