Description:

Seiji Ozawa & Saito Kinen Orchestra 2015 & 2016 "Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival" (OMF) All Beethoven Program Live on Blu-ray Seiji Ozawa, now in his 80th year, performs Beethoven Symphonies No. 2 & 7! Included as a bonus is a rare video of "Choral Fantasy" (Piano: Martha Argerich) from "Maestro Ozawa's 80th Birthday Concert"! Festival" (OMF) in 2015. After the name change, the festival will continue to feature not only the outstanding performances of the Saito Kinen Orchestra (SKO), the parent organization from SKF, but also world-class conductors, performers, and performers under the direction of General Director Seiji Ozawa, who will gather in Matsumoto. This video was recorded live under the direction of Seiji Ozawa in 2015, when the orchestra stepped onto a new stage, and in 2016, the 25th time it has been held since the SKF. It features the matured performance of Seiji Ozawa, who has reached the age of 80. First is the footage of the 2015 Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival, the commemorative first concert after the name was changed, in which Seiji Ozawa conducted Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in Matsumoto for the first time in 15 years. Symphony No. 2 was composed at about the same time that the "Heiligenstadt Testament" was written due to worsening hearing loss. Although overshadowed by No. 3, "Hero," it is a piece with passionate strokes and rich expression. It is a work that shows Beethoven's musicality that goes beyond the framework of classical music, and Seiji Ozawa gives his best performance of it. Then comes Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in 2016. It has been 23 years since this piece was also performed in Matsumoto. It is the most vigorous and lively piece of Beethoven's symphonies. After completing No. 6 "Rural", he wrote No. 7 after a blank of three years. During that time, Beethoven was in a difficult situation with deteriorating health, hardships in his life, and a broken heart, but he gradually regained the strength to live and started a new path in his personal life and creative activities. The characteristic rhythms are repeated, and the music is vividly developed by Seiji Ozawa's strong conducting and SKO's energetic performance. (1/2) King International
