Hofmeister: Quartets by members of the Berlin Philharmonic! The members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra perform Hofmeister's Flute Quartets. Franz Anton Hofmeister (1754-1812), a contemporary of Mozart who was well known in his lifetime as a composer and publisher, was born in Rottenburg near Stuttgart, moved to Vienna at a young age, and was widely associated with the Viennese composers of the time. His name is known to Mozart, who wrote String Quartet No. 20 in D major, K. 499, for the Hofmeister's publication. The style is truly Viennese classical. The only minor quartet, No. 3, is particularly attractive. Flutist Andreas Blau is a master flutist who became principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic in 1969 at the age of just 20, a position he held until 2015. Christoph Stroili, violin, Ulrich Knerzer, viola, and Darfit Liniker, cello, are all members of the Berlin Philharmonic. Recorded at the Church of Jesus Christ in Berlin-Dahlem. Tobu Land System
