A collection of concerto recordings by Nikita Magalov, one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. Magalov was born in 1912 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Her father was born in Georgia and Tbilisi to the upper class. Her mother was a local St. Petersburgite. After the Russian Revolution, he escaped to Helsinki, Finland, and then to the U.S. He moved to France to study at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he became a popular pianist in the 1930s, and after the war, he was a great master of the instrument, and he also taught at the Conservatoire de Geneva, where he was a very important figure. Magaloff's piano playing is very distinctive, based on a musical neatness that is distinct from romanticism, but also evokes a good old-fashioned piano aesthetic. Although Magaloff has made many recordings, they are mostly of solo pieces (especially Chopin), with limited recordings of concertos. This may be his first recording of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, which he had contact with while in New York. Moreover, it is a stereo recording.
