Description:

The solitary world of Brahms' only official disciple, Jenner, reissued in 2005. Gustav Jenner (1865-1920) was a German composer. He was born on the North Sea island of Gilt, where he had to suffer hardships because his father, a general practitioner, committed suicide on charges of "adultery" against a patient. He later made the acquaintance of Brahms in Hamburg, where he studied under him and is considered the only official pupil of Brahms. His style was not only strongly influenced by Brahms, but was also inspired by Brahms' own narrative style. He studied his teacher's music so thoroughly that the two clarinet-driven pieces in this collection are considered to be Brahms' new discoveries.
