Nicholas Angelich;

Description:

Now Warner Classics (Erato) pays tribute to him with this 7-CD collection of previously unreleased recordings of Angelisch's solo, chamber, and concerto repertoire, produced between 1999 and 2019 for concert hall or radio broadcast, Bach, Bartók, Beethoven Berg, Brahms, Franck, Haydn, Liszt, Mussorgsky, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and Zemlinsky. Joining Angeliche will be Martha Argerich, the Ebène Quartet, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Myung-Whun Chung, and the Orchestre National de la Capitole de Toulouse. Although there have been few opportunities to hear Angelisch perform live, even on recordings, in Japan, the performances here are aptly described by Martha Argerich as "intelligent and truly wonderful music. As you know, music is a living thing, not inert.It is my own desire to play certain pieces that I truly love and that is my starting point... art does not need justification... it should be something that is truly deeply felt... it is important to have a sense of adventure I think. Either way, you need to experiment and challenge yourself. This is what I am trying to do. I try to be innovative, but I don't compromise on performance standards or on the music itself, but on my own standards," said Angelisch in a 2010 interview with Seen and Heard International. Nicholas Angelisch was a man who radiated integrity and good character. As a musician, he amazed me with the way he handled his instrument, but there was a purity in his playing that revealed the truth of the piece, a true poet of the piano. On a personal level, he was admired by his fellow musicians for his generosity and collaborative spirit. It was through music that he expressed himself most fully, opening up a new and sometimes dazzling world to listeners," said Alain Lanthron, president of Warner Classics & Erato.(2/2) Warner Music Japan
