The second symphony in a typical classical form, full of melancholic melodies, demonstrates Rachmaninoff's ability as a symphonic composer. These two masterpieces of the Romantic symphony are performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, which Pallée served as music director and established a golden age for the orchestra.
