Conductor Pastelnak was born in New York. At the age of 16, he received a scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music. He studied under an illustrious roster of teachers, including Neeme Järvi, David Zinman, and Jorma Panula, and in 2002, he won second place at the Cadàques International Conducting Competition in Barcelona (the first-place winner of the inaugural competition was Gianandrea Noseda). He is a promising young talent with a bright future ahead of him. This album features an excellent performance brimming with his youthful passion—a Bartók that emphasizes sharpness over eeriness and a clear, crisp Brahms—offering a breath of fresh air even to ears that might be a bit tired of these works.
Naxos Japan

Tracklisting:

1.The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, Op. 19, BB 82: Introduction (street sounds): the thugs order the girl
2.The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, Op. 19, BB 82: The girl entices the old rake
3.The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, Op. 19, BB 82: The girl entices the young man
4.The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, Op. 19, BB 82: The girl entices the Mandarin
5.The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, Op. 19, BB 82: The girl slowly begins to dance for the Mandarin
6.The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, Op. 19, BB 82: The dance concludes; the Mandarin chases the girl
7.Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68: 1.
