Description:

The maestro's only recording of the complete work was "The Marriage of Figaro," which he conducted in Salzburg in 1953. The original language of this opera is Italian, but at that time in Germany and Vienna, it was commonly sung in German. This recording from 1953 is also sung in German, but the singing by Kunz, Seefried, Schwarzkopf, and other famous singers is very convincing. Schwarzkopf (Countess) is a noble and dignified German singer, Seefried (Susanna) has an exquisite and charming voice, and Güden (Cherubino) has a boyish voice. The male cast also includes Kunz (Figaro), who shows his mastery of dialogue, and Schaeffler (Count), who sings with a commanding performance. The singers, who were born in Germany and the former Austrian Empire and grew up in German-speaking countries, sang, spoke, and acted vividly, including the dialogues. And above all, Furtwängler's conducting! The overture "Attilerando" and the "Wedding March" showcase the singer's unique sense of scale, but the overall performance is very normal, and the famous arias by the splendid singers are accompanied with delicacy and warmth. The question is how this extremely delicate, artificial, fast-paced opera will fare in the hands of a conductor who is known for his swagger and grandiosity. The answer is in fact quite good. This is a fine performance, fast when necessary, never slackening in arias, ensembles, or indeed in any passages of music, and warm throughout, with only the wake of the conductor's personality shining through in the occasional exquisite sparkle of the whole." Furtwängler on Record" by Peter Pirie, translated by Kazuo Yokoyama, published by Ongaku no Tomo Sha in 1983. Four years later (1984), Chetra launched the "Furtwängler Edition" series (FE-27), which was re-released on K19C-9390/2 by King Records (GT-7086/8). King has re-released it on K19C-9390/2. However, other companies (e.g. Rodolfo in France, and EMI in 1996) have already released the CD version, and the master tapes are still in the warehouse of King Records. This time, the analog tape (2-track, 38cm/sec) has been digitally remastered and released on CD for the first time in 40 years at King Sekiguchidai Studio! The sound quality is crisp and clear! The sound quality is clear and crisp, with a warm and natural texture without any digital smell (metallic sound)! You will fall in love with the many famous arias by great singers, the joyful stage directions, the beautiful sound of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and Furtwängler's humanistic conducting! Booklet with Japanese commentary (liner notes by Kozo Asazato). King International
