Raised in Prague, he is one of a new breed of composers in the Czech musical tradition. Vinterberg began music lessons at the age of nine and studied composition at the Prague Conservatory under Alois Hába, a well-known microtonal composer. He was active as a composer for opera houses and ensembles, mainly in Brno, but was interned at Theresienstadt in 1945. However, he miraculously survived the liberation of the camp on May 8 of the same year and moved to Germany in 1947 after the war. He composed several works during this period. He then worked as an editor for the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and as a pedagogue at the Richard Strauss Conservatory, contributing to the development of the music world. He considers his music a \"bridge\" between Eastern and Western Europe and acknowledges Schoenberg as its origin. However, he does not use a definite twelve-tone technique, but rather builds his own style of music with complex rhythms and extended chromatic scales. The Sinfonia Dramatica on the album is his first symphony, which he refers to as \"a premonition of the catastrophe in war.\" The Piano Concerto was one of the first works he wrote over Germany. The \"Ritmosphony\" of 1966 is his last work, written in the fullness of his writing during his fourth and happiest marriage.
