Description:

The long-awaited new recording of "Les Boreades," Rameau's masterpiece from the last years of his life! Composed in 1763 to celebrate the end of the Seven Years' War, "Les Boreades" is based on Greek mythology and tells the story of the queen of the Boreads, who are followers of Boreas, the god of the north wind, who wins the love of a man of different status. For some reason, the premiere was cancelled, and soon after, the Opera House of the time (Salle du Palais Royal) suffered a fire, and Rameau died the following year in 1764, leaving the opera to lie in the Bibliothèque Nationale for 200 years without a chance to be performed. The first performance was broadcast by the French broadcaster ORTF in 1964 to commemorate the bicentennial of Rameau's death. Although there was a video recording of the performance conducted by William Christie in 2003, no recording of the complete work has appeared since then, and this recording by Václav Luks This recording by Václav Luks is a valuable work based on the results of his subsequent research. The recording is also significant in that it was made in the opera house of the Palace of Versailles, even though it was not completed until after the composition of this opera. The recording is also significant in that it was made in the opera house of the Château de Versailles (even though it was completed later than the composition of this opera). The solo singers include Deborah Cachet, who has been very active in recent years as the top soprano in "Allegri: Miserere" (ALPHA438/NYCX-10093) by Le Poème Armonique, as well as Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, Sebastien Doucet and others who have earned the trust of the orchestra. Caroline Weinanz and other talented singers bring youthful dynamism and sharpness to this unfortunate masterpiece from Rameau's final years, creating a wonderful performance that questions the true value of the work.
