The string quartets of Donizetti by the period instrument ensemble "Revolutionary Drawing Room" were released successively in the early 2000s to great acclaim, and the rediscovery of these unknown masterpieces by the renowned opera composer has excited many audiences. The first quartet is the "No. 7. Unfortunately, however, the series was never completed as a complete set, as only Nos. 7 through 18 were recorded. More than 20 years later, the Cologne Pleyel Quartet finally recorded the remaining pieces, and following the previous recording of Nos. 1 to 3 (777909), the complete cycle is now complete on this album. Donizetti, who was well versed in Viennese culture, combines Italian and Austrian traditions in his string quartets, creating beautiful works with flowing melodies interspersed with a firm formality. The Cologne Pleyel Quartet, like its predecessors Nos. 1-3, presents the works with a well-balanced sound and fresh interpretations. Naxos Japan
