Two cantatas by Rademann and the Gehingen Choir for the "Feast of Michael the Archangel" and the organ sounds of Naumburg, a city associated with Bach! Hans-Christoph Rademann, who has established a solid reputation as a choral conductor, and the Stuttgart Gehingen Choir present a collection of Bach cantatas. The album focuses on cantatas written for the "Feast of Michael the Archangel. The fixed feast day (September 29), "Feast of Michael the Archangel," honors Michael the Archangel's victory in his battle against Satan. Four cantatas were written, Nos. 19, 50, 130, and 149. Cantata No. 19, "So the battle is fought," was written for the "Feast of Michael the Archangel" in 1726. The fifth, "Stay, angels," is a very beautiful tenor aria. And Cantata No. 149, "Man joyfully sings a song of triumph," premiered on the Feast of Michael the Archangel in 1728/29. The opening trumpet humphare is followed by a powerful chorus singing of joyous triumph.Cantata No. 169, "God Alone Knows My Heart," is a cantata for solo alto voice, first performed on October 20, 1726, the 18th Sunday after Trinity Sunday. The organ is treated like a solo instrument, allowing the listener to fully appreciate the sound of the Hildebrandt organ in the Wenzel church, the organ Bach visited to appraise the work. Then there is Cantata No. 158, "Peace Be With You," a solo bass cantata written for Easter Tuesday (the third national holiday).
