Louis Ferdinand (1772-1806) and Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847), two musicians who lost their lives in their thirties, are featured in this collection of brilliant early Romantic-style piano quartets. Louis Ferdinand von Prussia, a member of the royal and military family of Prussia, was a composer and pianist of exceptional talent, and was highly regarded by Beethoven and Schumann. Beethoven thought more highly of Louis Ferdinand's piano skills than of the Prussian Kapellmeister Friedrich Heinrich Himmel, to whom he dedicated his Piano Concerto No. 3. His skill is clearly evident in the 13 works he left behind, and the brilliant and virtuosic piano part plays an important role in the Op. 5 recorded here. Tokyo M-Plus
