Description:

Gérard Poulet is the core of the label's chamber music program. This time, Jacques Louvier and Alain Meunier will join this trio of French heavyweights. Jacques Louvier was born in Marseille in 1947, and studied at the Paris Conservatory under Jean Hubert, Vlad Perlemuterre, and Pierre Sancan. He won numerous competitions and gained fame for his recordings of French piano and chamber music, and was a professor at the Paris Conservatory from 1979 to 2012, where his students included Hélène Grimaud, Claire-Marie Le Gué, and Arcadi Volodos. Alain Meunier was born in Paris in 1942, began playing the cello at the age of 7, entered the Paris Conservatory at 13, and switched to music aesthetics and musicology at 18, but returned to the cello at 22, going to the Prado Festival and performing before Casals. After graduating from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena (Italy), he studied with Maurice Maréchal (1892-1964). After teaching at the Académie Musicale Chigiana and the Conservatoire de Lyon, he has been a professor at the Conservatoire de Paris since 1989 as of 2014. For all his fame, he has made very few recordings, so this CD will be greatly appreciated.
