Christie's Collection of 60 songs published and dedicated by Lambert to Louis XIV in 1689, at the age of 79, was the definitive collection of "ailes" (airs and arias) that were very popular at the time. Lambert was a singer, theorbo player, and composer of great renown at the time. When he formed the ensemble Les Arts Florissants in 1979, he wanted to fight to make the baroque repertoire popular again, not only in the concert hall, but with the wonderfully seductive weapon of 'recording.'"
