Filippo Maria Gherardeschi (1738-1808) was one of the foremost Italian musicians of the late 18th century. He had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of the legendary Franciscan friar Father Martini, one of the greatest musicians and musicologists of his time, and later became a member of the Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna (an honor reserved for a select elite of musicians), and served as music director at several important music chapels in central Italy. This album features three keyboard sonatas that Gherardeschi published during his lifetime and dedicated to Maria Teresa, Archduchess of Austria.
