John Hilliard was born and raised in Hot Spring, Arkansas, and was a childhood friend of Bill Clinton, who grew up there. Florence Price was the first African-American woman in the U.S. to receive recognition as a composer, and has received a lot of attention in recent years. Cole Berger, of course, is another Arkansas pianist. He was born in Fort Smith.
