Born into an aristocratic family near Lublin, Poland, he was educated from an early age to be a gifted musician, and was so gifted that he played a concerto at the age of eight. His father wanted to take him on a Mozart-like tour, but Lipinski, who was by nature reserved, refused, and instead worked as a court musician, composing and performing. For a time he practiced to become a cellist, but eventually returned to the violin, where he earned a reputation as a great violinist on a par with Paganini and, from 1810 onward, with Louis Spohr. He was also a close friend of Paganini, who is known to have given him his beloved instrument, the AMATI, after his death. His works are in the tradition of 19th century violin music, written with a policy of pursuing musical depth rather than merely technicality. These two trios are also beautiful works in which the solo violin plays the central role while the other violin and cello sing the melody.
