Respighi was, after all, an avid student of 17th century music and took great pleasure in revising the music of that period, and \"The Birds\" is undoubtedly a byproduct of this work. Of course, the orchestral sound is in the most vivid colors, but the music itself remains as it was in the Baroque era. This strange texture is interesting in its own way. In contrast, \"Botticelli's Triptych\" is full of his characteristic melody and rich trills at the beginning, and is highly original music. The \"Suite in G major\" is a work in the classical style, but it is usually heard in a shortened version, and the recording here is the \"original version\" compiled by conductor Vittorio himself. This is also moving music with melodies said to have been inspired by Frescobaldi's Madrigals and other works, sung magnificently by strings and organ.
