Rattle \u0026amp; LSO, the golden duo of beautiful strings and lively rhythms, recorded Bruckner No. 7 in 2022. This is the world premiere recording of the Kohl's version. The world-renowned beauty of the strings, the majestic sound and blend of the wind section, and the vibrant rhythms all come together to form a performance of the highest quality. Bruckner began composing the first movement of his Seventh Symphony in September 1881 at St. Florian, where he spent the summer; the score for the finale was completed on September 5, 1883. The first performances were given in Leipzig on December 30, 1884, under Artur Nikisch, and in Munich on March 10, 1885, under Hermann Levy, with great success. The work is dedicated to King Ludwig II of Bavaria, a generous patron of Richard Wagner. The work is said to have been greatly influenced by the December 8, 1881 fire at the Ringtheater in Vienna (directly across from Bruckner's residence), which killed 386 people, the world premiere of \"Parsifal\" (July 30, 1882), which Bruckner attended, and Wagner's death (February 13, 1883). Wagner's death on February 13, 1883.The chorale-like melody of the first movement is sometimes said to be a Parsifal \"salvation\" theme, the second movement a memorial to the victims of the fire (also known as a Wagner memorial), and the string movements of the third movement scherzo like a licking fire. The birth of this work was based on the advice and discussions between Bruckner and his pupils and colleagues Franz Schalk, Josef Schalk, and Ferdinand Löwe, among others, which led to numerous transformations and changes. Some of these can be found in the autographs, while others appear for the first time in the first edition. The Kohl's edition is based on Bruckner's manuscripts and other sources, with the \"first edition,\" which Bruckner himself heard many times in performance, as the central source. Rattle has so far released two Bruckner works based on the Kohls edition, No. 6 (LSO0842\/KKC6175) and No. 4 (LSO0875\/KKC6557), both of which have attracted worldwide attention (No. 8 (LSO3042\/KKC9333) is a video based on the Haas edition). It will be interesting to see how Rattle sculpts the music of No. 7, again, while staying close to Bruckner's figure.
