His fourth LINN release with the Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra, of which he is principal conductor (the third was the Brahms concerto with Trpceski), is a powerful release of all of Rachmaninoff's numbered symphonies in a single cycle. The third volume, the fourth, features Rachmaninoff's most famous work, No. 2, which was a great success after its premiere and remains one of Rachmaninoff's masterpieces to this day, and No. 3, which was composed in his later years after leaving Russia. The third piece, composed in his later years away from Russia, is included in this recording.
