The ballet features a pair of male and female puppets made from clay by Prometheus and brought to life by Zeus, and the story is about an emotionless puppet who grows into a human being through the education of various gods. The ballet was first performed at the Hofburg Theater in Vienna on March 28, 1801, and is said to have been well received. Unfortunately, the ballet script has been lost, making it difficult to perform it as an actual ballet. Nevertheless, the work was written between 1800 and 1801, and many parts of it will be familiar to the audience, as Beethoven had appropriated the ballet's melody for his Symphony No. 3 and \"Eroica Variations,\" which he composed around the same time.
